Thushs Movie World - Movies For Us All!

Ever imitated an actor or an actress?

August 31st 2006 09:51
Usually actors and actresses are good looking and have great personalities and yes, we do feel like imitating them.

Not only do we imitate them to amuse and entertain people at parties or gatherings but we also like to actually look like them!

Dress is definitely a means of imitating a particular actors or actresses style. Maybe it is juts a casual, dressed up look. But somehow, if we feel that we are imitating someone famous, I guess it gives us a sense of confidence!

Hairstyles are another way of looking like celebrities. I always look at Meg Ryan’s and Gwenyth Paltrow’s hairstyles, cause they have similar hair to mine and it always helps when I go to the hairdressers and say tell them the particular hairstyle that I am talking about.

Musicals – Never get Sick of them

August 29th 2006 06:06
Are you one of those people who enjoy watching the old musicals like The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Blue Hawaii, My Fair Lady and The Young Ones …..?

Not only do these musicals re-emphasize the era they were made in, but it also gives us the idea of: the type of English they spoke, the clothes they wore and just how they viewed life on the whole.

Also it is always interesting to observe that most of the time, the actor or actress was a popular singer like: Julie Andrews, Elvis Presley and Cliff Richards.

We have moved away from the era these movies were made in. Not only in terms of music, but dress, hairstyles, lifestyles and technology. But I never get sick of watching these movies.

After our lovely experience at the Babes in Arms movie, my daughter, has been asking to go the movies again.

My Husband, daughter and I decided that it would be a good thing to go the movies today, after having done some shopping.

This time, we got to choose the movie as it was not a Babes in Arms movie session. Hoodwinked was about to start, and so we thought it would be a good ‘family’ movie.

My daughter was all excited to be at the movies once again – but the mistake was that it was the time of her afternoon nap. She was really sleepy, but was able to really concentrate on the movie for about the first twenty minutes. Then she began to get a bit restless. When I glanced at my husband, he was already fast asleep.

After a few minutes, my daughter was out of her seat and half asleep on my lap!
But she kept waking up each time there was some music as she loves to sing and dance. But after awhile she was asleep too.

So I just sat and enjoyed the rest of the movie….

I really enjoyed the songs too and also the bit of suspense in it. The grandma was really funny and it was lovely to hear all the little giggles from the little children watching the movie

My father was a hotelier in Sri Lanka when my sister and I were kids. So we resided in the Hotel for seventeen years.

During this time, we really looked forward to the arrival of the film crews who always spent a few months at the hotel every few years!

Some of the movies which were filmed during this time were ‘Gandhi’, ‘Mountbatten’ and ‘Indiana Jones’.

As children we really looked forward to getting our autograph books signed by the actors and actresses in the movies, who were always very friendly - and of course this made us feel very important.

But what we never realized was the amount of work that went into making a movie. I still remember an instance where they transformed the Hotel dining room, by bringing in new furniture, and then watching the crew act the same scene so many times that we had memorized the lines ourselves and were really tired of watching it.

The amount of coordination that has to go smoothly, from the cameraman to the actors is amazing.

I guess it is quite easy for us to review movies and even criticize them at times, but I think it is important for us all to remember all the hard work that goes into making a movie

How do you pick your favorite movie?

August 25th 2006 09:40
We all watch movies and we all have favorite ones as well. But how does one become a favorite?

Actors and Actresses – I think this is a key factor, as we tend to enjoy watching movies done by our favorites. Here it is also a combination of the type of movie as well. For instance, Hugh Grant acts in Romantic Comedies, mostly! So, if we enjoy Romantic Comedies and like Hugh Grant, a movie he acts in could be a favorite.

Babes in Arms

August 23rd 2006 10:15
I finally made it to the Babes in Arms session with my daughter. I thought a children’s movie was on today but it was United 93.

But I thought that I would give it a try just to see how she would react to the movie. I let her take in a few sweets, just to distract her incase she got scared of the dark and the noise. But she was fine!

Dramatic Transformations

Many good movies are based on novels. It is so nice to have a book you enjoy reading, made into a movie that you actually enjoy watching.

I have personally always enjoyed watching the Jane Austen movies, after having read the book. Of these, Pride and Prejudice has always been my favorite. But Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion were also really good.

Why do we watch Movies?

August 20th 2006 13:16
I guess most of us would say that movies are an excellent source of entertainment and relaxation. Especially as there are different types of movies such as: comedy, drama, romance, thriller, action, children, and science fiction. So there is a movie category to cater to the type of person we are or the mood we are in when we chose to watch the movie.

But why else do we watch movies?
