Comparison: Pride & Prejudice/Bride & Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is definitely one of my favorite novels and movies as well. The movies based on it have never been a disappointment to me as they have always portrayed the novel very well.
Pride and Prejudice is based on a family living in England. The family is hilarious in a sense, as their mother (Mrs. Bennet) is not only all out to have all her daughter’s married, but also sets about it very odd ways. The only sensible three people in the family are Mr. Bennet, the father and Jane and Elizabeth (the two older daughters). The youngest two (Lydia and Kitty) are as silly as their mother and the third (Mary) is a bookworm.
Their lives are changed with the arrival of Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy who move into the neighborhood, portraying all that the Bennets are not: Class, pride and glamour.
Bride and Prejudice which is also based on the novel Pride and Prejudice, is based in India, where once again there is the issue of class, cast, marriage and education.
As I come from a similar background, it was great to see how these ideas were tied into the movie, while keeping the story line. Also, the western culture in terms of dress and dance of the modern day India are very entertaining.
So, although the movie settings are different and the two movies have actors and actresses from different countries, in the respective movies, it is interesting to observe the similarities that can be portrayed through film in two completely different countries.
