Thushs Movie World - Movies For Us All!

'The Lake House'

August 19th 2006 06:28
A movie which is definitely based on drama and romance, which keeps you engrossed throughout the movie, but makes you question it more and more later on!

It revolves around Kate (Sandra Bullock) a doctor and Alex (Keanu Reeves), an upcoming architect trying to keep up a romance while living 2 years apart. They correspond with each other throughout the movie, using a letter box by a lake. Kate has already lived in The Lake House and leaves a note to the new tenant (Alex), who has just moved into the house - which starts the correspondence between the two.

Alex is able to see Kate, as she is able to tell him what she was doing two years ago (in 2004). It gets confusing at times, as she is also able to remember him two years ago – like when she shared a kiss with him at a surprise party organized by her boyfriend at the time. She also asks him to get a book she lost two years ago.

Also it seems to be a coincidence that they bump into each other. Like when Kate sees him being knocked down by a car (in 2004) and he dies in her arms. But she is able to save him in 2006 as she happens to meet Alex’s brother and he tells her that Alex died on that very same day two years ago. This makes her realize that Alex was the man whom she tried to save and writes to him warning him of the incident.

So, throughout the movie, Alex is able to take forward the romance as he has the advantage of spending time with her, even though he is in the past (2004) and writing to her in the future(2006).

It is definitely confusing and leaves you with a lot of…what if ...how come….questions.

But it is definitely worth watching as it is full of romance, and although I still wonder how they got together at the end, they do and it makes you somehow believe the story

I wasn't really confused by it, I loved the movie, i am a sucker for romantic movies (not romcom) and found the opposite of confusion, i found most everything fairly predictable. But I still enjoyedit a lot, which i suppose says something
